Columbia Alumni at the Oscars


Congratulations to the Columbia alumni filmmakers nominated by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the 89th Academy Awards. This year, two Columbia alumni filmmakers were nominated for Best Picture and Best Documentary - Short Subject. Nine other Columbians worked on various nominated films.

CAA Arts Access congratulates the amazing work of Columbia-affiliated Oscar winners and nominees this year!

Dede Gardner '90CC, is the Producer for Moonlight, which won Best Picture. With the Moonlight win, Dede Gardner became the first female producer with two Best Picture Oscars. Veronica Nickel '10SOA is also a Co-Producer.

Story Writer, Jennifer Lee '05SOA and Screenwriter Phil Johnston '04SOA were part of the writing team for Zootopia, which won Best Animated Feature Film. Jenny Sarah Slate '04CC is the voice of Bellwether.

The team behind O.J.: Made in America, which won Best Documentary Feature, consisted of several Columbia graduates. It was produced by ESPN and their Executive Vice President, Marie Donoghue CC'87, LAW'91 produced along with Tamara Rosenberg ‘06JRN and Connor Schell ‘04BUS.

Producer, Kahane Cooperman ’91SOA was nominated for Best Documentary – Short Subject for his film, Joe’s Violin. It was also produced by Peter Kenney '90SOA, and starred Joe Feingold ‘58GSAPP.
